Social Media User Apologizes to Head Coach of Cambodian Football Team

PHNOM PENH: May Sokun, nicknamed the Mother of Complaint by Cambodian netizens, released a video to apologize to Cambodian football coach Keisuke Honda on the evening of May 1, 2023, after being advised to do so by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

In the video, the social media user stated, “I, May Sokun, an artist, would like to respect the high recommendation of Samdech Hun Sen and the First Lady, to release a public apology video to Mr. Honda. Please forgive me, May Sokun, for my mistakes. I ask the public as well; please forgive me”.

Speaking at a meeting with Cambodian SEA Games athletes at the Peace Palace on the afternoon of May 1, Prime Minister Hun Sen instructed May Sokun to apologize to Japanese football coach Keisuke Honda after using insulting language regarding his clothing at the recent match against Timor-Leste.

The Prime Minister considers May Sokun's remarks an insult to the entire Cambodian team. "Doing this is a slap in the face to our football players," he said. He went on to warn Sokun that the government will take action if he does not apologize.
